In music, nothing divides more than Rock & Hip Hop and if you’re an artist that decides to branch out from one to the other, it’s not exactly an easy task. J-Hoon Balbuena, however, does that quite effortlessly.
He made his mark in the Philippines music scene playing drums for Kapatid and Kjwan. Two bands that have won him awards in the country and Asean, endorsements (Nike. Nokia. San Miguel. Lipton Tea. to name a few) , 11 music videos and 6 #1 singles.
However, after 7 years, J-Hoon has decided to concentrate more on his own passions and go back to his first love, hip-hop and soul. He says it’s not that he’s leaving rock n’ roll and forgetting it, it’s just now his new challenge is hip hop and, to quote, “it’s nice.”
Two years in the making, his debut album Noodles was finally released last July. It showcases J-Hoon’s vast musical horizons, having arranged and composed all 17 original tracks. His album also features collaborations with some of the industries finest, namely: Nimbus 9, Nyko Maca, Julianne, RBTO, Phatkhat, Niki Cabardo, Allen Umali, Nights of Rizal, Justin De Guzman, Ian Tayao and June Marieezy… to name a few.
J-Hoon is now gearing up to perform the much awaited Noodles 12’ Vinyl housing 10 songs off the album. Pressed in Brooklyn, he’s proud to say that this will be the first hip-hop/soul vinyl from the region.
J-Hoon will be performing at Backstage on Feb 8, 2013.
